T5W: My Favorite Early 2021 Books

You know what I just stumbled on for the first time despite 14 years on GoodReads?

A group dedicated to bookish Top 5 lists. Apparentlyyyy, this happens every Wednesday. And I've just been over here, sleeping under rocks. Not anymore! I'm jumping in, and this week's theme is my top 5 favorite books that were published in the first half of this year.

So....note that these are not my top reads of the year!

I read three other 5-star books so far with publications in 2018 & 2020. They out rank some of these (and they'll make it on my list of fav books later this year, forrr sure). But here are my favorites that were released in the first half of 2021 (and my ultra-micro reviews):

T5W Favorite Early 2021 Books

The Invisible Husband of Frick Island by Colleen Oakley
Beautiful, cozy, kitschy, heartbreaking, intriguing.

Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon
Mysterious, fun, attention holding, heartbreakiiiiing.

The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren
Hot, and so, so, juicy-angsty.

The Road Trip by Beth O'Leary
Indulgent, longing, humor, angst, grief, redemption.

Sunkissed by Kasie West
Fun, sweet, indulgent, satisfying, summer getaway.

Can I break the rules just a teeeeny tiny bit?

I'm a rebel, I have a hard time with hard and fast parameters. I want to throw an honorable mention out to a sixth book, though.

It's self-published, and definitely not mainstream. But the journaling that was within this book moved things for me in a way that is still unfolding. You might be hesitant to trust it, because it was written by a self-made money guru (and we know there are a lot of posers on the internet), but she just....has a way with things. A vibe. She for sure knows the right questions to ask you to shake things up, and she put them all in this book.

Rich as F*ck by Amanda Frances
Invigorating, inspiring, motivating, therapeutic.

  2. Wonderful post! If I'm to pick it's between Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid or Soul Lanterns by Shaw Kuzki.
